The abdominal aorta is the main artery that carries blood down from the heart to the rest of the body which supply your brain with blood. The AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) screening looks for “ballooning” of the wall of the abdominal aorta. AAA’s are most often caused by plaque buildup or atherosclerosis.

When an abdominal aneurysm reaches approximately 5cm. In diameter, it is at a higher risk for rupture.

Can my physician do these type of screenings?	Physicians are under insurance restrictions to perform diagnostic testing, unless the patient has symptoms. Unfortunately, most people are dont have symptoms until it is too late.
How are the screenings performed?	A small amount of gel is applied to the area evaluated, then a small instrument called a transducer is moved around on your skin to see inside. This is quick and painless.
How long does each screening generally take?	Each screening is takes about 5-10 minutes.
When do I receive my results?	Preliminary report findings will be given after the test and explained to the patient. Instructions to contact their doctor will be highly advised should any preliminary abnormalities be discovered.
