   What is a 2D ultrasound?

During a 2d ultrasound the technologist may visualize images made up of a series of thin images or slices with only one slice being visible at a time to create a flat looking picture of the baby.

   What is a 3D ultrasound?

During a 3d ultrasound thousands of sliced images called a volume of echoes are digitally stored to produce a 3 dimensional image which shows the outer surface of the baby demonstrating a life-like image.

   What is a 4D ultrasound?

A 4d ultrasound is basically a 3d image in motion.

Is ultrasound safe?

Ultrasound has been successfully used on pregnant women since the early sixties. Over 40 years of extensive studies have found that ultrasound has not caused any harm to mother or the unborn baby. 3D and 4D ultrasound imaging uses the same technology as a tradition 2D ultrasound performed in a routine ultrasound. Reassurance is provided by researchers who perform multiple prenatal ultrasounds from the early stages of pregnancy with no negative effects on the growth or development of the fetus. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is part of prenatal care today and is safe for both mother and baby.
